|Founded in 2006, the Copley Singers are a semi-professional and congenial group of colleagues and friends who gather several times a year to perform together. Many of the members have sung at Trinity Church, Copley Square, Boston; the group performs at a high standard which is informed by their great love of choral singing and their belief in its communicative power. The group performs regularly throughout New England, including programs in Boston, Cambridge, Methuen, Plymouth, Duxbury, the Cape and Islands, and many other venues.
In September 2011, they were invited to sing at Trinity Church Wall Street as part of a national commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In the spring of 2009, they joined with the Ensemble Singers of Bermuda to perform a special concert which was part of the 400th anniversary of the establishment of the Island. The group has just released its first CD, “I Wonder as I Wander”, on the Gothic Records label, featuring Christmas music. Brian Jones, Director, is Emeritus Director of Music & Organist at Trinity Church, Copley Square, Boston, where he served from 1984--2004. At Trinity, he built a widely-acclaimed program which attracted attention throughout the United States and abroad; one reviewer called the Trinity Choir "one of North America's choral treasures," and the group has appeared on NPR, the BBC, and has sung for conventions of the American Guild of Organists, American Choral Director's Association, and the Association of Anglican Musicians. Trinity Choir recordings are much-admired, and among some of the most popular choral CDs of any church in the United States. Candlelight Carols, on the London-Polygram label, has sold more than 100,000 CDs, and has remained in production for twenty-three years. Mr. Jones studied choral music with Robert Fountain at Oberlin, orchestral conducting with Hermann Genhart, and Dalcroze eurhythmics with Inda Howland. He was Director of Music at Noble & Greenough School in Dedham for twenty years, and Director of the Dedham Choral Society for twenty-seven years. He has concertized as an organ solo artist in many parts of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and England. He is in demand as a guest conductor, and has recently conducted the splendid Trinity Church Wall Street (NY) professional choir both in Sunday services and in Bach Cantata 191 with period orchestra, the choir of the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and a South Carolina diocesan choir at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia, SC. He was Visiting Artist at Christ Church Cathedral, Louisville KY in 2010, and has recently conducted and played at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, and the Cathedral of St John the Divine in New York City. He has served in several interim positions, including the Cathedral Church of St John (Episcopal) in Albuquerque, NM; Old South Church (UCC), Boston; and Memorial Church at Harvard University.
